House on the hill. | Kennewick

Description:

Every now and then in life you are given the chance to be a part of something very special. When we were approached to design and build a new home on one of the highest vistas in our area it was just such a chance.

One interesting challenge when building on top of the ridge in our area is that there is very little dirt up there thanks to wind.

Finding a suitable location for a septic system is  a challenge when the majority of the hillside is fractured basalt. We were able to work directly with the health inspector to locate an area down the side of the ridge which worked perfectly.

You may be wondering "what about water? power?" A well in excess of 800'  and a power trench around 1000' long were the answer. Add a 20,000 gallon cistern for fire supression and now you have a building lot.

We knew that designing a home that fit the existing contours would help minimize the excavation costs.  For example, we decided to add on a small daylight basement on west end of house because of a natural depression that existed in that location. Working with home owners like Mr. and Mrs. H was the key ingredient to the success of this project. We listened to their ideas and were guided by their vision. The following photos are testament to what I consider one of our most rewarding and successful projects to date.
